Google Patents is a search engine from Google that indexes patents and patent applications from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), which are taken from the original USPTO database. Optical Character Recognition (OCR) has been utilized to make them searchable. The Google Patents search engine includes all US patents and published patent applications and is one of the few available sources for pre-1970s full text US patent data. European patent documents were made available in 2012 via the European Patent Organisation (EPO). In 2013, Google announced that searches would include results from additional agencies around the world including China, Germany, Canada, and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Google Translate was integrated directly into the patent pages to allow viewing of patents in their original language as well as English.
